Kokanee Run (Aug. 2007)

Hi! As an intern at TU, I had the opportunity to take temperature readings along Grimes Creek with Pam Smolczynski. As we drove along the creek, we noticed that the Kokanee run had started, and that people had dammed the river in places (with rocks and logs) to create pools to swim in. Because Kokanee cannot jump easily, they were prevented from traveling upstream to cooler waters, and spawning grounds. We proceeded to take temperature readings along the creek, while making a hole in each dam we saw, as to create a passage for fish. We enjoyed watching many fish make their way through.           ~Emily
